Android TV App Development

Hi, I am looking to build an app for Android TV (https://developer.android.com/tv/index.html) to be used with the new Google Nexus Player (http://www.google.com.mx/nexus/player/) as well as other set-top boxes that might surface in the future. The purpose of the app is to let users browse and play a catalog of videos (I will provide the videos).

The core requirements of the project are to:
• Design and build interface on which the user can browse and select the videos (more details on requirements below)
• Create the backend on which the videos will run (using services such as Kaltura)
• Handle the submitting and maintenance of the app (including configuring payment options).

The videos are not informational or regular entertainment videos. They are artistic videos meant to be constantly on your TV (in essence transforming the TV screen into a moving artwork). The videos have no beginning and no end (they are what is called an ‘endless loop’) and they are meant to run constantly on your TV until you stop them (ie. Many hours).
The app will charge a subscription service to access its full content. It will be free to download and provide samples so users can get an idea of the experience, the user will then have to purchase a subscription to unlock the full content.

Interface specifications:
- UI to browse and select a video/s
- Ability to watch it at that moment via streaming or download it to the device for later watching (if device supports it)
- Sort and view videos based on different criteria - date, color, mood, series, etc. (these criteria will be provided for each video)
- Ability to create a playlist

The following needs to be taken into consideration:
- Back end for storing videos to download (ie. Parse)
- Back end for streaming (ie. Kaltura)
- Sorting engine (based on tags)
- Encoding of videos – all videos will be full HD (and 4k when supported). I will provide in mp4 (.h264) or the newer HEVC (.h265) format. You are responsible for the final encoding of the videos for optimal streaming if needed.

The key to this app is to design a simple and beautiful interface for the user to select the videos and provide seamless streaming and a great user experience.

I will provide some guidelines for the UI as to what I am looking for aesthetically as well as a brand manual (use of logos, typography, etc) but you are responsible for the overall creation and functionality.

Lastly, I will be updating the app with new videos frequently (around once a month). It would be great to provide an easy way to do this if possible.

The final deliverable you are responsible for is the app actually submitted and available for download in the playstore for the nexus player. The project will only be considered complete once I am able to download the app from my player in my home using a regular user account and the app is working with full functionality.
